Fantastic, you made it!

Considering how Sandy devastated NY and surrounding communities I can only consider myself extremely fortunate.  I was down on the Lower East Side without electricity for five days but I maintained hot water and a working bath while neighbors only a block away had no water at all.  There are still so many people displaced and in need. The only option is to support and help each other in any way possible.

I did have a positive experience from hurricane Sandy and that was the opportunity to get to know my neighbors and community business owners. I have always loved my neighborhood. For the past six years I have lived on the Lower East Side and I have seen many changes,  some have been bittersweet.  Although there is the need and desire to preserve historic content, there is also growth and development necessary for survival and prosperity.

I have been pleased to see the businesses moving into the Lower East Side have been privately owned.  It’s become a harmonious mix of galleries, new, vintage and resale clothing boutiques, shoe stores, hat shops, jewelry stores, cafe’s, restaurants, bakeries, clubs, lounges, hair salons and spa’s.

I hope you will continue to stop by as I take you place by place around the Lower East Side and share each of these unique places with you and the people that own and run them.  I would also love to hear suggestions from you as to what your favorite spots are around the city, I’m always game for a recommendation.
